Wrap It Up…

My neighbor recently told me about her family matriarch; 103 years old, living independently and other than using a walker and giving up her car keys a few years ago, is still joyfully ruling their roost. She is my hero. I want to know what she eats. Has she cracked a code to create her own personal Blue Zone?

As I write this, a long walk calls to me, but I have stuff to do and it is at risk of being pushed aside, forgotten. What spurs me on is my 103-year-old self. If I am granted decades more in this life, I’ll thank my current self for adopting healthy practices.

I am giving the Old(er) Me a gift and wrapping it up with a big youthful, rainbow-striped and sparkly bow and singing Happy Birthday to my centenarian self as I lift weights or take long walks in the sunshine. I’d love to believe that the path to a long healthspan is coffee, wine and chocolate, but that indulgence is for the present me. So I’ll reward my (selfish) gift-giving with a treat yoself moment and bite of dark chocolate. After all, that’s good for me, too. Right?
