This is one of my favorite ELAN Principles because the words we choose directly affect our perception and thoughts. We may have no power over the actions of others, but we have control over our words. We choose our internal language. It takes practice, but we can adopt a more positive dialect.
In the tiny, but powerful book, AS YOU THINK, James Allen reminds us that we are the master of our thought, the molder of our character and the shaper of our condition and even destiny. “Your mind is likened to a garden that may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild – but whether cultivated or neglected, it must and will, bring forth.”(italics his)
I’m challenged to intelligently cultivate the garden of my mind, perhaps by monitoring input, especially in light of James’ continuing words: “If no useful seeds are put into it then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.” What “useless weed seeds” are choking out beautiful blooms in your mental garden? What negative thoughts could you pluck from the fertile soil? Watch your language and watch your garden grow.
