My good friend Linda is an excellent example of the tenth ELAN Principle: Be a Lifelong Learner. Semi-retired, she has dedicated three weeks this spring to travel to Paris for the sole purpose of immersion in all things French. She teaches French at the college level so I would call her fluent, but she recognizes there is always more to learn. Am I jealous? A tiny bit, but really, that would be a waste of precious energy. I’ll spend my resources on admiring my friend and being inspired by her. Plus, I am striking out on my own learning adventures. I’m so thankful that there is nothing to stop me from pursuing so many options (certainly not the number of years I have been around, merely two meaningless digits).
How about you? What are you excited to learn? Is anything stopping you? I challenge you to look any naysayers in the eyes and say, “Being a lifelong learner is just one of the principles that helps me live my best life, so come along for the ride if you want, or stand to the side and watch me wave goodbye.”
