Chasing Dreams…

I’ve been hanging out in Limbo Land lately as I grapple with redefining goals. I wonder if I’ve been chasing a one-dimensional, even tainted dream. Who decided that the only success for a life dedicated to writing includes a big publishing deal? More importantly, why did I buy into it?

The creative act, in and of itself, is what many are called to. How does that translate for you?

I wish every budding teenager could view their dreams through the benefit of a future lens that illuminates a continuing thread of passion. What do you see when you view your life thus far through such a lens? My childhood dreams of becoming the first female to land on the moon, or a veterinarian or a famous singer/songwriter were left behind when I chose a different path that has led to a wonderfully varied and creative life.

That’s the thing about chasing dreams. We admire those at the tippy top of their field, forgetting or not knowing of their sacrifices. All or nothing. Ten thousand hours multiplied. Failure is not an option.

That is not my jam. The choice to do many things, none of them greatly, leaves me feeling a bit like a slug, sliming my way through life with only an oily streak left behind. I’m okay with that as I settle into Limbo Land and all its uncertainty.
