Whatever Works…

Like so many, I am disheartened by recent events. I’m thankful I can gather at my church and rest in the hope of a better world where I’m called to love all people, and for my morning writing café where check-in discussions range the whole wide-world. Safe spaces, both. Same with two-way, encouraging talks with friends and family who are as close as a walk in the park or halfway around the world.

Surrounding myself with people who get me works in hard times. So does going to the page, releasing rage-laced words never to be posted; banging on the piano or drum, strumming the guitar, not caring who hears; being selective about what I read, which is one hundred percent the opposite of being told what I can and can’t read; dancing in public because I no longer care what people think. I strive to shut out noise and news and negativity, limiting my time with those who don’t understand why I stand for equal treatment of all people, no exceptions. My beliefs may seem crazy to them, but don’t get me started on vice versa. I am a world away from loving those who work to deny equal rights to all. But that’s what I’m called to do – love others, all others. It just might be the thing to heal our world.
