*Determination. I admire all creatives, famous or not. For every Frida, Pollock, Lady Gaga,  Steve Martin and Maya Angelou there are unknown artists who create beauty that I will never see or hear. I think that’s a shame, especially considering some of the watered-down drivel that reaches the pinnacle of popularity. I admire the craft, the talent, the voice of the super famous yet I know there is another characteristic of culturally successful artists: determination. I wonder what drives them. On the surface you’d think it was confidence in their dream and their ability to make it happen, yet I know most creatives suffer from moments of doubt, sometimes deep doubt. Maybe they fake it ‘til they make it but more likely they grab on to that Tenacious D* and don’t let go, never give up. When blocks or disappointments drag them down they dig in deeper. I hope you who dedicate your time to creation in whatever flavor you choose feel fulfilled and appreciated. You’ve been called to create for a reason. Use that desire and skill to add beauty to your world, large or small. May you dig in and never give up.
