The Blues can oddly uplift a sad soul. Singing along in a minor key is like a good friend holding your hand during tough times. Sometimes the Blues signify a time of rest. We go, go, go. While in the frenetic fun times we can convince ourselves that things will always be this energetic, positive, productive. There’s no stopping us. I lean in to those times at full tilt, knowing a need for rest will come soon enough. Both extremes are beautiful and necessary. One recent afternoon I felt I would forever be a slug. Even my brain was too exhausted for reading. But. I knew it was temporary. Rather than cancel my evening commitment, I rallied and sure enough the doldrums disappeared. Being fully engaged in the moment flipped the inertia switch back to the energetic side. Fighting against the need for rest can be disastrous. Pushing on can push too far. Had I not allowed my body and brain that quiet time, I would have been denied the joy of the swing back to energetic fun times. Up or down, high or low, find value in your own swing, perhaps with the Blues blasting in the background.
