I recently celebrated an artful day with one of my daughters, exploring a local modern art museum. Soaking in the creations of others feeds my soul. Doing so with a loved one, doubly so. Like music, visual art can enhance and energize. It has a way of toggling brain buttons to the on position, like firing up dormant synapses. When you observe, enjoy, and acknowledge art forms outside of your preferred method of creative expression you come away primed to do, to create, to tell, to sing, or to play.
Walking to the car, we noticed a group of people clapping within a tall metal structure. Picture a column, narrower at the top, with three openings running up the sides. We peeked in and asked if we could join them. They invited us to clap a rhythm as they added layers to the echoing chorus. The ideal day became an ideal, ideal day when one of their members played a mournful tune on his violin. It rose to the heavens in the chamber of sound, carrying my tears of joy.
Look for beauty. Look for art. Look for music. Look for ways to connect with others in the most surprising ways. You will be rewarded with impromptu joy.
