What is your ideal day? I have a few. The simplest is cozying up in my writing closet, punctuated by playing piano and reading. Simple, not easy to pull off given the rarity of white spots on the calendar. I had the grandest ideal day at the New Orleans Fairgrounds, soft-shell crab poboy in hand, jiving to the festival vibe. I stood in the mix of sounds and souls and turned my face to the sun, soaking up my ideal day. It was pretty darn close to my ideal, ideal day. I steal that phrase from The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, in which she challenges readers to fantasize about their ideal day. Then she pushes us more, to make it the ideal, ideal day. One year I drew a sketch of a studio apartment overlooking Central Park in NYC, piano and guitar in the corner. How ideal would a day there be? Perhaps I’ll paste the picture in a prominent spot. Vision boards have a way of coming true.
What is your ideal day? What could make it the ideal, ideal day? Do one small thing today to bring even a little piece of it around to your reality.
