One of the highlights of my fun time at Jazz Fest was dancing and singing with thousands of music lovers as Lizzo belted her songs and her Big Girls frolicked on stage. I’m thankful for the current message of Body Neutral, an offshoot of Body Positivity trends which began in the sixties. Body Neutral means to accept and respect the value of one’s body as one aspect of the total person.
I’m thankful for the miraculous design of the human body. Every limb and joint have a purpose. Our fingers bend at the knuckle and become traveling hooks, a bag’s strap looped around. Our arms hold things close as our hands carry objects up flights of stairs. Our toes help us balance. Our hands communicate and even talk. Our shoulders carry weight as do our backs. Hips and knees and feet dance as if no one is watching! What about all the things our organs do? Eyes that take in our visual world. Ears that hear music, and the brain that processes it all. A heart holding goodness and mercy enough to share with others.
I embrace Body Neutral and become Body Thankful, aware of all that my body does and celebrating every mental and physical act it performs.

I’ve used box breathing (four counts inhale, four counts hold, four counts exhale and four counts hold) during dentist visits. Six breaths per…
