I’m finally realizing that schedules per se, don’t work for me. Nor do goals that line out how many chapters or scenes or pages or even words I need to write each day to get where I want to go. What is working, though, is honoring my inner child, my creative self, my deepest desire, by setting aside a few hours of writing time in my tiny, comfy writing space. It is a trick to my left brain that tries to tell me I need to follow certain steps to reach a goal. It is a gift to my right brain that just wants to have fun. So, on this first week of the year, in the midst of a pull to return the house to pre-holiday order, I am swapping harsh words like must, and got to for “Here I am, deepest desire. For just a small bit of time, I am all yours.” The miracle is that by casting off hard schedules and embracing this happy, fun time, I have time and energy and most of all enthusiasm to spare. What fun!
