This week I received another rejection (the worst kind, a form letter). Someone in a position of power, or a keeper of the gate, deemed my work to be unworthy. But that’s not true. It is worthy. Worth my time and passion and focus. Worthy of sharing with the wide world, adding beauty or humor or even goofiness to a too serious landscape. Although my heart throws a tiny pity party with each form letter, my brain knows that NO is one step closer to a YES.
Many success stories are founded on persistence rather than an instantaneous value judgement of good or great by the masses. Years of dedicated, steady work is the only preparation for an overnight success.
Often, I respond to a NO with a Why bother? Why not read all day or take up knitting? I never do. Nor should you. There is a deep drive within leading you to do what you do. Celebrate every NO for what it is: you responding to a deeper YES.
