The fourth ELAN Principle is about how limiting thoughts shape our perception of our world, large or small. Perhaps, like me, you believe there is a finite amount of the good things; love, joy, beauty, relationships, comfort. We hold tight to what we believe is in short supply. It is a radical shift to recognize the unlimited quantity of those good things. It is no small miracle such goodness grows by the very act of sharing. What? Give it a try. Think of something you dare not let go of lest you be left with nothing. What is it – love, joy, laughter, beauty, resources? Open your hands and heart and let that one thing flow freely from your fingertips. Send it forth, out and away. That’s it. Don’t mark it on your calendar or brag to a friend about how magnanimous you think you were. Just open up. Let goodness flow. Then do it some more tomorrow. Be generous in your praise to others. Don’t be stingy in your giving to the needy. Be joyous in your relationships. Better than posting a sticky on my rearview mirror as a reminder to look for and share joy, laughter and love is the experience that once shared, they return to my own small world manyfold…no limits.
