Ten Things I Love About New York…
I recently took all kinds of chances (in the midst of a shutdown and wonky flight schedules) to put a drop in a virtual bucket list. One of my ongoing fantasies is to live and act like a local in Manhattan for a month or so. You gotta love the energy of a city that…
N E W…
I have written and thrown out two drafts of this blog. I just wasn’t feeling it. Then I went to my NEW favorite museum, the Kimbell, to watch short documentaries about archeological discoveries in the Arkhaios Film Festival. What a joyous afternoon. While I miss my favorite haunts of Houston, the art of discovery in…
Wednesday blog can be found here…
Just a reminder that Wednesday blogs now live on substack. Here is the link to this week’s offering.
Each Wednesday, I’ll share some of the trials and hopefully tribulations of my writing journey here, as I research publishing options and send my words into the world.
On this first week I am preparing to participate in a Pitching Roundtable sponsored by Gotham Writers Workshop. I’ll be pitching my first novel, “The Art Colony,” about a young artist who is selected to live and work in an experimental art collective on Galveston Island. Her dreams of an idyllic art community don’t quite come true as she has to deal with unfair practices and paltry living situations, not to mention rude and downright bullying colony mates and a wayward love interest. Through it all, her wiener-like dog is her one source of humor and joy.
I also eagerly await the list of applicants selected for America’s Next Great Author; part reality TV show and part NaNoWriMo wrapped into one grand and fun time, co-created by Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry. (Chances may be slim to none, but this blog will be all about Making Things Happen as well as other ELAN Principles). I’ve submitted a submission video, in which I pitch my second novel. It is about a young woman who acts like a child but not because of any physical or mental issue. Rather, she has been infantilized by and overprotective and much misguided mother. When that mom chokes on a piece of Sunday pot roast, our heroine is powerless to save her. A family friend takes her in temporarily, but it is clear that the child within must somehow mature into the woman without, in a hurry. She runs away, certain that she can bring about her transformation in time for her mother’s funeral and unaware of what dangers lurk outside of her tiny, sheltered existence.

My Publishing Journey
I’ll be posting here on Wednesdays, short updates regarding challenges, frustrations and hopefully some leaps forward on my path to publish writings.
I’ll also be sharing personal tidbits along the way, perhaps as this journey jives (or doesn’t) with the ELAN Principles shared on Mondays.
