I have a group of friends who love to share food. I knew I had found my people the first time we passed plates to sample a bit of this, a bit of that. Life is like that appetizer mash-up, a random mix of tiny bits and bites, various happenings and jumbled emotions. It is not a single-destination, one-belief straight line. Life is a forest of diversity, even if all the trees seem identical. Like the stars in space, my mind boggles at the thought of the millions (billions?) of organisms living their full lives in the tree trunks, branches, roots and dirt. We may only see the trees, but so much more is happening. We choose what we notice, while too many images bombard our subconscious. We decide how to react (or not) to the stimuli, while holding multiple emotions in balance. I am glad for the mixta, the levity and hope mingling with worry. Even the bittersweet amalgam of love and sadness in remembering a loved one who is no longer with us. The ups and downs and twists and turns remind us of our own beating hearts, still going strong. I explore more on Wednesday, here on Substack in my post “We do hard things.”
