Seasoned…

Next month we will be moving very close to one daughter (the other one lives across the world). Not as close as “Everybody Loves Raymond,” but close enough for the need to set some boundaries, like texting before popping over. We are excited about this new season in life, a big circle from 25 years ago when we built an empty nest 45 miles from their childhood home.

My life thus far has cycled through seasons, beginning on the shores of Lake Erie with a diet of meat, potatoes and the dreaded vegetable until my family moved to New Orleans when I was 15 and I discovered the joy of well-seasoned food. During my high school and college years there all manner of new experiences added spice to my life. Marriage and moving across Louisiana for a few years before moving to Texas once again changed my palate, gaining an appreciation for the taste of cilantro and jalapeño.

As we move to our fourth city in Texas, bitter and sweet may be the prominent flavors, at least for a bit. Soon my days will be filled with continuing engagement in online writing groups, discovering new local activities and being present for school activities and family celebrations. Seasons, seasoning and seasoned. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
