I am not a good artist. My drawing is elementary at best, but I have the most trouble with colors. Too many choices, so many blends and combinations. Even studying a color wheel or color theory can confuse me. If I look to nature for examples of what appeals to the eye, I see reds living next to purples and yellows peeking through greens. Somehow, they get along. Imagine our world if there were no varying hues, only primary colors. It might be exciting and playful for a short time, but wouldn’t our eyes long for a harmonious place to rest? Would we miss the infinite shades of green in the trees and grasses if we’d never seen such beauty? What if red had never meshed with orange to make peach, or blues and greens refused to talk to each other, never creating glorious turquoise?
The world is muddy, full of mixes and mashes. It is not always beautiful. It often doesn’t behave in a straightforward manner. Things clash. We can be surprised by new combinations, thoughts, or ways of living or thinking. The color wheel is infinite. Nature contains all those colors in harmony and peace.
