Stand…

If you were to take one stand, just one, what would it be? During my growing up time I felt a need to sharpen my edges to discover and then present to the world a clear image of the person I was becoming. We all, in our journey toward actualization, try on various beliefs, opinions, stances (for or against) to find what fits. It can be messy and confusing. Maybe maturity helps us land on a simpler definition. I recently heard that when we choose one thing upon which to take a stand, we are less likely to topple. It is simplistic, for sure, but we can complicate life with rules and variances and shades and justifications of if this, then that.

My foundational belief is that if our humanity has any chance to survive it is by advocating for fair treatment and equal rights of others. I stand firm, even as cultural tidal waves aim for my knees. I fail daily to respect all others because it includes those who are clearly intent on spreading hate speech designed to promote fear. Standing firm sounds easy until competing beliefs and opinions pull and push from all directions. Upon what one foundational belief can you firmly plant your feet? May it carry you to a place of understanding and peace.
