In this post spot we have considered horses and birds and airplanes and even go-carts to imagine thrusting headlong into an unknown future. Flying without the benefit of a machine seems the most freeing. Oh, to be a bird, flitting far above the worries of this world, a tiny birdbrain giving no thought to the existence of humans.
The Bee Hummingbird, found only in Cuba, is the smallest bird in the world – just two or so inches. Ostriches, native to Africa, can be nine feet tall and 350 pounds. God as great creator loves diversity. Consider the wide range of size and skin tone and hair texture and nose shape and eye color of humans. None are better or less than in God’s eyes. None. One of his greatest gifts is your differentness. You are worthy especially because of that thing that you hate because it makes you stand out. May we remember that every time we watch a delicate hummingbird dip into a flower or a gangly ostrich run like Phoebe (Friends reference). We all belong to the Animal Kingdom, and more specifically (see what I did there?) to Homo Sapiens. May we rise to the challenge of acceptance of all God’s creatures, celebrating variety rather than fighting to gain power over those we deem as different or less than. Check out my substack on Wednesday for more on birds.
