Holding Grief…

A spot in my heart is holding grief for all affected by the horrific California fires. I’m not there with them or among them, but I can pray that they receive help when and where needed, gather courage to face a ravaged view of the future, hold hope for renewal and rest in comfort from friends and strangers. May God hold those who suffer in his palm as they grapple with unknowable and challenging truths.

After every instance of increasing weather disasters, we humans want to physically act to help ease the pain. Such times reveal the true human spirit of generosity and charity. The most basic act we can offer to suffering friends is to show up, be present. When you don’t have words, be silent and listen. Let them know they are heard. They are seen. They are not alone. Rest in the sacred space where we take turns offering and receiving comfort, even as experiences do not compare.

During times such as these, I am thankful for friends and even strangers who connect through the simplest act of being present and listening, holding grief in a shared space.
