“Listening to the siren song of more, we are deaf to the still small voice waiting in our soul to whisper, ‘You’re enough.’” Julia Cameron in The Artist’s Way; A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity.
I’m not surprised at the serendipity of reading those words on December 31. Cameron’s path is all about synchronicity.
We are reeling from the season of more, more, too much. More things to do. More shopping and gift-hunting. More parties. More correspondence. More cooking and baking. More eating. More alcohol-laden toasts. More sweets. More. More. Too much.
No wonder January One calls for fresh starts, clean-outs and back to basics. As I empty closets, piling bags of recycling and give-away, I wonder how long before the vacuum of clear space will suck a new “necessary” thing into our home. How easily we fall into the siren song of more, answering to the call of new and shiny. I can resist, if only for this baby month that has yet to develop cravings for unnecessary things. Forget Dry January, I’ll try Less Buy January to detox from the season of too much. Because a still, small voice tells me I have, I do, I am enough.
