Plan Z…

Last week my walking buddy started a new job. Lucky her, but sad me. There goes our morning routine of fighting school traffic to drive through our favorite coffee shop for grandes of our choice to carry around the three-mile loop of our beautiful city park. Enter Plan Z, plan zed, plan zilch, plan zzz. It’s the least optimal of plans but the easiest to fall into. Do nothing. Sleep in.

Instead, I opted for Plan B and joined the local Y. On Monday. Without thinking. Without analyzing. Without planning to do it tomorrow. Tomorrow is so seductive, tricking us into believing it will arrive having conquered our self-made and self-directed promises. Our brains know that tomorrow never comes. Our hearts fall for the ruse. So easily. This time I did not wait for tomorrow, only to join the Y on January second with the crowds optimistically working against the failure rate of resolutions. I’ll be a regular member by then, familiar and comfortable with all the classes and equipment available. I’ve already enjoyed my time there and look forward to meeting new friends. Plan B is Better than Plan Z. Every time.
