Workers Work…

The saying goes, if you want to get something done, ask the busy person who organizes, rallies, motivates and gathers resources to make dreams a reality. I love dreamers, my own self being a big one. I get positive energy from hanging out with heads-in-the-clouds types. But if you never come down to earth and plop you butt in the chair, it ain’t gonna happen. Two novels-in-progress and a third in germination phase came about because I joined an online writing group that meets twenty hours a week. We zoom our concerns, struggles, and successes, then mute and get to work. The trick isn’t perfect attendance. The trick is dedication and consistency. One scene at a time doesn’t seem like much but they stack up to form a chapter and eventually a messy draft. I don’t get those who claim they are motivated, yet they continue various avoidance habits. If you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always gotten. In this case, the dream of a completed novel, up in the clouds. Wishing is worthless if there is no doing to back it up. While I love traveling, going, doing, hanging with creative friends, I love getting dreams done more, in the company of those who work. As they get it done, so do I. Funny how that works.
