My cup runneth over with family time, friend time, and fun time until the richness and goodness of social gatherings spill over to excess. It’s all good, but eventually one needs space to breathe and just be. For me, that looks like reading or playing piano or walking for no other purpose than to be alone with my thoughts. It takes intentional planning to make room for this mental space.
I’ve been hankering for some media deprivation, to whatever extent I can manage. Put the phone down. Close the laptop. Don’t fall asleep to streaming reruns. While I could not do true media deprivation even for a day; no tech, no TV, no radio, no reading, I could limit time spent tending to pings and chirps instead of constant read and respond. I could cease streaming and scrolling, even if only for a day. Resisting the siren call of lit screens makes space for my own thoughts, my own creations, my own ideas which lie fallow until quiet unearths them. My cup will fill with calm waters that soothe until the next round of going, doing, seeing and socializing. What fun that will be, renewed and restored. How can you make space today?
