The Drips…

Drip, drip. The irregular beat of the single drop falling from the loosened faucet rankles you. Drip. Just before sleep carries you into a deeper realm, drip. A leaky faucet is easily dealt with, but what about a leak in confidence? You work, you dream, you make things happen. You are busy, your muscles are ready for action and your brain is firing on all points. You enjoy the ride and ignore the physics of rising and falling waves until the crest breaks. The water recedes from the shore.

Such crises of confidence are temporary, this feeling that your efforts are off, wrong, or at worst, mediocre. I have faith in the up and down of the creative cycle, but leaky faucets are loudest during quiet times. Drip, why aren’t you doing more? Drip, what is the end game in mind? Drip, does anyone care about that which you toil over daily? Notice the drips and move on. They don’t serve you, or your world. Use the down time to learn, prepare and plan for the next wave to carry you to that glorious state of flow. As sure as the water meets the shore, it will come.
