Lifelong learning is one of the principles by which I live, but deep dives are tough. I prefer variety even though diversity of experiences results in a field of many, a mastery of none. I resist traveling down a rueful road, wondering where I’d be had I recognized a drive to write early on. In exchange, I’ve fashioned a life of myriad thrills and joys. Pivoting from one pursuit to another, sometimes for mere moments, energizes. These stretches of flow are sacred and magical, as fallow times of pondering will follow. I am happy for my pinball life, zinging from one flapper to another to propel the creative ball forward. I know there will be a day when the ball falls below the playing field, ushering in a time of rest. It’s all part of the creative life. In the meantime, I’m riding the energy that comes from paying attention, learning new skills, shutting out the negative to make room for encouragement and giving thanks for opportunities to grow and change. May you make the most of such power surges in your creative pursuits, even knowing there will come a time when it is best to rest and ponder your next pursuit.
