It is often the little things that keep us from accomplishing the big things. Have you seen the object lesson with two equal jars and piles of stones, pebbles and sand? If you pour the sand first into one jar, then the pebbles, there will be no room for the stones. Now place the other, equal pile of stones into the other jar first. Next in go the pebbles. Do they rest on top of the stones? No, they find their way between and under. It is full, yet when your pour the sand over the jar, it filters and settles between the cracks. Sure, it’s a law of physics; space and matter, etc. But it is also a good visual to remind us to honor the big things (goals, dreams, extra projects, and “not-important-to-this-money-driven-world” activities) by attending to them first and foremost.
Too many days I’ve wiped clean the slate of Daily Dos. Sand and a few pebbles fill my days of neat, clean, organized, sparkly, and tidy. The stones wait. Tomorrow, tomorrow, always tomorrow. Little things keep me from the big ones, the ones about which I claim to be passionate and care deeply. Honor the stones of your daily jars, first and foremost.
