Music Appreciation…

It is quiet in my office, with only the rustling wind announcing a coming storm. Most writing days are like this, but earlier I had cranked up the volume on a favorite playlist to energize me. Moving to the beat really got me going, until my head was bobbing, even banging. I am so thankful to the millions of people who spend their vocation creating music of all kinds. Millions times how many? Multitudes work behind the scenes in recording studios, music venues and classes that teach the musicians, electricians, technicians, and on and on. All so we can enjoy a seemingly infinite field of harmonic variations. How are no two songs even a little bit similar? My life is infused with dancing to the latest hits, worshipping to Gospel tunes, relaxing with the classics and being moved by favorites, new and old. I thank God for music and my ability to appreciate it. Certain pieces can bring me to unexplained tears, New World Symphony, for example. Others can pull me up from the depths or set me down in a place of mental rest. Music is harmony. Harmony is peace. Peace is love. Making music or listening to it soothes my soul.

  1. Good, good energizing thoughts, Patty. I love doing my own kind of “dancing/exercising” with my earbuds in and spotify going. Also when I’m painting/collaging – I love listening to a kind of meditative channel called Brainfood, it really does feed me!
