What if you were really good at one thing? What if it was at the exclusion of all else? Recent conversations have revolved around the frustration of being good at many things, but never the outlier. Can you relate? I challenge you to see the beauty of the world of multiplicity. Find a comfy spot amid those things you do well. Reside in the wonder of variety and diversity of talents. I was inspired to write this blog while struggling (yet again) at a Joy of Djembe Drumming rehearsal. I knew the rhythm but was missing the feel. Worse, I failed to execute distinctive slaps and tones. In the world of djembe drumming that is equivalent to being tone deaf. I’ll never be a master drummer for many reasons, least of all not being able or willing to do only that one thing. Nor will I ever be a concert pianist, but the beautiful vibrations the keys create beneath my fumbling fingers resonates to a deep joy. I’ll celebrate every piece of progress in the multifarious pursuits that fill my days and color my heart and strengthen my soul. Here’s to all you creatives navigating multiple paths of expression for they all lead to a more beautiful world.
