Just Breathe…

When I am rankled by small everyday disturbances or overcome by world events, I remind myself to breathe. Just breathe. I use it as a prayer or meditation, repeating “Breathe in Peace, Breathe out Love.” Sometimes it takes a few cycles for me to believe it, but eventually the breath slows, my mind relaxes, and I remember the best thing I can do is not add to the chaos, to be still and generate a sense of peace and calm. When you breathe in peace there is no room for fear. Hate feeds on fear. Don’t believe me? The next time you want to rant (or grumble under your breath as I am wont to do) think about the source of your dislike, even hate. What fear is causing the uncharitable feeling? Inner peace resides even deeper. Trust that it is there, eternally at your side. Take a breath. Tap into that. Especially when you feel it is impossibly far away. Take a deep breath. Breathe in Peace, Breathe out Love. It is there, as close as your breath.
