A friend used to remind herself to K.I.S.S, keep it simple, stupid. I’m not wild about the stupid part, but I do like the easy-to-remember reminder. Especially in today’s complicated world; moving parts butting up against each other; one viewpoint insisting to the death that their values must be followed to the letter of the law, laws passed in order to maintain power or further oppress the powerless. One can taste the fear behind these attacks, whether military or against the rights of other-thans. Here is the simple truth. Fear breeds hatred. Acceptance breeds love. Love of all. Love for all. No qualifications, judgements of caveats. Love for all, not just those who look, act, speak, or believe like you. That would be a world of one. In our shaking world, I remind myself of that unshakeable simplicity. God is Love. Love will overcome hate. Light will vanquish dark. It is so simple, really. Fear lurks behind every act of violence and oppression. It is also present in my hatred (yes, I’ll say it) of those who act, speak, believe or vote in opposition to my idealistic viewpoint. I’m reminded yet again to keep it simple, and let an all-encompassing love take over. Love for all. Period.
