What floats my boat? I’m very happy to spend the bulk of my mornings writing, but every now and then life’s worries and duties interrupt. I was hit hard last week when a routine oil change turned into major car repairs. Perhaps because I nearly cried at the news, my service advisor felt sorry for me and provided a substantial upgrade for a loaner car. Besides writing and playing and listening to music, driving is one of the things that floats my boat. It sounds silly, but fellow car buffs know the feeling of a tight, feel-the-road, close to the ground ride. The low, guttural vroom that reverberated through me at the first punch of the accelerator plastered a smile where a worried frown had been. Zipping through our wonderful city park, hugging the curves and purring at the red lights didn’t take away the financial hit, but it reminded me that joy can be found, named, claimed and relished if we only look for it. Sometimes floating our boat is as simple as taking a spin on a winding road and appreciating a well-tuned vehicle. My car is back, it drives like a dream and it is top-down weather! I can’t complain.
