Delving deeply into one field of expertise can build a skill set that flows to other areas. I’m unveiling a new understanding of this phenomenon. As I tone writing and editing muscles, my piano and guitar just-for-fun playing improves during grab as I can practice times. Working diligently in one area winds the inner watch, creating a tension in the spring that must be released, one tick at a time. Energy spent toward one pursuit stores excess for use in another. Is it about energy? Or confidence? Perhaps the greatest pursuit is to know your strength, then unabashedly flex for the world to see. Be confident in your chosen field, the one you are spending untold hours honing. Where do you shine? Recognize that. Celebrate that. Hold that confidence deep within to overflowing until it spills from your pores. Forget your mother’s warning against self-pride or conceitedness to the childhood you. The world is waiting for your brilliance. Don’t let unfounded doubt or misguided coyness dull it. Heed the advice of Henry David Thoreau and go confidently in the direction of your dreams. That building confidence is a necessary thing to carry you forward. Train for the confidence game and watch where it takes you.
