Now what? Years ago, I boldly and cluelessly set out to write a novel. Despite frustrations and rejections along the marathon-like training, it was a good decision. The writing has gotten easier. The writing is better. Plodding through to an end is the easy part. I work to transform bulging computer files into the best they can be, but labor pains of birthing them into published form can seem unbearable. My words will wither and die without me pushing them into the business world of publishing. A world that is built on rejection. Dancing in a rainstorm for the sole purpose of inviting a lightning strike may be easier than finding the perfect match of agent/writer/publisher. That monumental step is only the beginning. Daunting! And yet, writers persist. We write – what fun! But we learn, hone, and accept rejections as if they were pearls to string around our necks as gems. Writing and learning about writing is the left hand. Publishing and learning about publishing is the right hand. For all writers ~ may your left fingers one day intertwine with your right fingers to create a written and published work to be shared with the world. May you persevere until that happens. I am right here with you.
