Do you love what you do each day? The lucky ones get to spend their days creating beauty in whatever form and go home with a paycheck. Equally lucky are those who are filled to the brim with the satisfaction of accomplishing a previously thought to be impossible goal. As humans we yearn for someone to listen, notice, and observe our efforts. We long for a simple kudos for a job well done. It’s why we work at it, learning and growing in our craft to offer our best thing to the big, wide world.
Work at it, play at it. Work hard, play hard. But remember secondary play. Last week I took time off from writing, adding play to my work/rest rhythm. I had so much fun tackling small creative projects quietly waiting for some attention. I rediscovered the joy of choosing fabrics, trims, and buttons for a purse design. I fell into the Zen space of doodling on homemade Birthday bookmarks. It was stimulating. And exhilarating. A few playful hours refilled my energy stores and opened new creative pathways that will inform the real play that drives me. Keep working toward that goal but take time for secondary play.
