It’s storming – a good gulley washer and a welcome break to the heat wave which is the result of something called a heat dome. That sounds oppressive, like there is no escape, but I give thanks for the warmth and the greening up that it brings after summer showers. On blue sky days the heat holds hands with chart-topping humidity, so I thank God for air conditioning, and pray for those who are suffering the elements, fully exposed. My northern friends often speak of staying in during the freezing times. I stay in during the blazing times.
Green intensifies after a rainstorm. New growth lime greens pop through established deep forest greens. Grassy greens march to greet the furry eggplant foliage of begonias. Some say green is the color of envy. In this country it is the color of money. Both of those meanings point to lack or greed. But green is nature. Green is abundance. Green is go. Maybe green is love, the symbol of God’s gift of this earthly home to his children. May your world be filed with all the goodness of green and may you be thankful for it.
