In the realm of time and space and all things that must fit within, I like to remember to front load…my day, my week, my priorities. Setting aside writing time first thing in the morning tells my brain and my heart that writing is an important enterprise. Front loading the week means the first three days at least are carefully scheduled. In contrast, the mindset of “I’ll get to it just as soon as the laundry, organizing, cooking, cleaning and answering emails is done” sets me on a rat’s wheel of going nowhere no matter how quickly and efficiently I run. Front loading means filling the white space on my calendar with silly reminders, even notifying others that those hours/days are unavailable.
How can you front load your week to honor that endeavor to which you feel called? Where can you carve out and then honor that dedicated time? What fearful or shiny thing draws you away? Replace that fear with your passion for your creative project. See those shiny things for what they are: temporary derailments that will soon lose their luster, offering no illumination on your true path. Front load your day, your week, your priorities.
