Springtime – dormant blooms peek through thawing ground and baby bunnies hop around fences. Yesterday, my wonderful home church celebrated the resurrection of Jesus after a week of services that commemorated every aspect of Holy Week. The day before I helped flower a twelve-foot cross that would adorn the sanctuary on Sunday morning. I couldn’t count how many blooms of multiple varieties we trimmed and poked into floral foam that had been secured to the wooden cross. When we were done, it was filled to magnificence. What joy it added to our historic sanctuary. So colorful, so fragrant, so lavish, dare I say extravagant? And aren’t those great words to describe God? He is lavish in his unending love and extravagant in his gifts. Easter Sunday follows a time of death, sadness and mourning. We lost a dear friend on Saturday and my heart aches at his passing, but I know there are times of joy around the bend. There will be many celebrations for his friends and family to share laughter and love in his honor. There will be flowers to remind us of everlasting life. What signs of rebirth are you noticing/celebrating this spring?
