Observe Your World…

Observe Your World is one of my favorite ELAN Principles. It is closely related to staying present, being here, in this moment. And it corresponds to watching for and naming moments of beauty and abundance: a green sprout poking through concrete, fresh flowers in an unexpected place or stopping to turn your face upwards toward the warmth of the sun or soft rain drops announcing a summer storm. Such beautiful moments would be lost were it not for the practice of observing; paying attention to the tiny details that pervade our lives.

The world bombards us with billions of bits, bites and yes, bytes clamoring to gain our attention. We choose which gain access to our memory bank, but we have to be intentional. It is too easy to float through life with little regard for the world around us, inwardly focused on some concern or drama. It takes practice to pause for glimpses of beauty and wonder. Try it this week. Observe your world. You will find what you are looking for, so make it glorious!

Great post, Patty! Appreciate and observe those things around us. I have found so much joy recently working in my little patio garden. A new sprout brings new life. The rain is cleansing and brings nourishment to my garden. While the sun is energizing and revitalizing. I’ve spent genuine time observing my flowers grow and blossom. There are many things to learn from a little patio garden!
