Dancing Like Elaine…

I love to dance. Am I good at it? Does it matter? Recently I met friends at a local dive for live music and beer. Walking into the dark bar brought waves of nostalgia from school days in New Orleans, back when eighteen was the legal drinking age and still we used fake IDs. Ah, to reminisce about those days gone by.

Better yet, make some good old days right here, right now. I remembered my mom’s words as I dragged reluctant friends to the dance floor: people only watch the good dancers. Unless you dance like Elaine (Seinfeld reference), you can feel free to move to your own groove while shutting down the ever-mumbling ego who loves to warn about losing face or worse, exposing the real you. So? Chances are, NO ONE is watching. But if they are, give an extra flail of the hand or bump of the hip, just for them. Sure, there’s a chance you’ll be a topic of ridicule, but it is more likely you’ll inspire others to let loose their inner Elaine. Tell your ego and any gawking onlookers, this is the real me, deal with it! Dance on and create new memories every chance you get.
