All this talk of flamingos is not to suggest that us writers are special or flashy or beautiful or tall and graceful but to illustrate how we feel out of place at times. I hope you belong to a group of like-minded writers who also enjoy the creative act of filling their digital files with their own quirky, deep, potentially prize-winning thoughts. But what of those lonely moments when you feel like a bright pink bird in a world of warblers and mockingbirds? You try to explain your drive to write, your passion, your quirky sensibilities, but it seems there is no weight to your words, they float up and evaporate. Compound that frustration with the societal belief that value is measured only by dollar signs. I coddle my writer on such days of doubt by retreating to my writing closet. My silly, tiny writing closet with twinkly lights and fluffy pillows on an ottoman wedged under the shelves; a space where I am free to wander in a worldy way. Vision boards and a warmer for my cuppa Joe are all I need to whisk me away to an inner world populated with quirky, sometimes hard-to-love characters making their own way in a fictional world.
