Continuing our Monday discussion from last week, to honor and love oneself means to offer our best, and to hold a portion of our fruits for our own consumption. Wait, does the title say selfless or selfish? If one lets go of a fear that there is not enough (love, money, fruits, self…) to go around, then one has more of those things to honor not only oneself but others. When we are stingy, that capacity to feel honor and respect shrinks. Open your hands and let feelings of love, respect, honor flow freely through your fingers. Watch them return to you, manyfold. Clenching a fist around that which we fear is limited chokes the flow of the very thing we seek. Honoring ourselves means to recognize the value of the person we were created to be in the eyes of our Creator. That means to intentionally spend time in reflection, to recharge our energy stores, to discover our strengths and value them as we do the strengths of others. These are small, but mighty steps toward the path of fully and truthfully offering ourselves through acts of love and service.
