Monday, Monday…

Apologies if that song is now stuck in your head for the remainder of the day. You know the one, by the Mamas and the Papas? Monday morning, so good to me etc. A brain worm, for sure. Maybe it is on purpose that I post the inspirational ELAN blogs on Monday to help us start the week off right. Today, I challenge you to Respect Others, as the second ELAN Principle. Easy enough.

But the tag line is ALL Others. Really? All of them? Every single one? I might run away from people I don’t like, turn a blind eye to hateful behavior and separate from them, but do I have to respect them? It is so hard. But not too hard. We can do it, as we can respect those close to us. Our most dear relationships are also the ones that can be cantankerous. Those are the ones in which we are so comfortable, at times bored or even exasperated. How we perceive, act toward and show respect to others is evident in those kindred friendships, romantic or non. If we treat our loved ones outside of the realm of respect then acting as if we respect strangers may be just a show.

Imagine holding a mirror in front of your face as you relate to people you meet. What do they see? Is that reflected image one of respect? For others? All others? This Monday, put your best foot (face) forward and genuinely respect all who cross your path. You may be surprised at the reflection in their faces.
